The Deciduous Trio (Amulet Strange, flute; Stephanie Mientka, viola; and Hope Cowan, harp) was formed in 2013 when Ms. Cowan, Ms. Strange, and Ms. Mientka were graduate students together at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.

Deciduous Trio is committed to exploring and expanding the repertoire for their ensemble as well as sharing their unique sound with diverse audiences. They combine innovative and exciting programming with a warm and personal approach to audience engagement.

As active recitalists, they have performed on recital series throughout the United States. Performances in Texas include the Abendmusik Concert Series in Houston (2016) and the Phil Kramer Recital Series in Missouri City (2015). In 2014, Deciduous Trio opened the Western Slope Concert Series in Grand Junction, Colorado where they also gave a masterclass at Colorado Mesa University. Additionally, in Colorado they have been featured on the Boulder Chamber Orchestra’s Mini-Chamber Series (2016). Other noteworthy performances have included the James S. Sclater Chamber Music Series in Clinton, MS (2016) and the Odyssey Chamber Music Series in Columbia, Missouri (2015).

Recently, they were an ensemble-in-residence at the inaugural season of Connecticut Summerfest.  At Connecticut Summerfest they worked closely with composer participants and premiered three newly commissioned pieces in addition to their own Artist Residency Showcase performance. The last three years in a row they were offered a chamber music residency at Avaloch Farm Institute in New Hampshire where they enjoyed working on new repertoire and playing outreach concerts in the Boscawen, NH area.

Ms. Mientka, Ms. Strange, and Ms. Cowan also maintain active individual orchestral and teaching careers. They are members of Boulder Philharmonic, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and El Paso Symphony respectively.
