Amulet Strange is excited to be the newly appointed Principal Flutist of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. A Texas native and Interlochen Arts Academy graduate, she received her Bachelor of Music degree studying with Timothy Day at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Returning to her home state, she completed her Master of Music degree from Rice University under the tutelage of Leone Buyse. Other mentors include Jocelyn Goranson, Catherine Payne, and Aralee Dorough.
Her summers have been spent across the United States at Spoleto Festival USA, Atlantic Music Festival, Avaloch Farm Music Institute, Texas Music Festival, Orchestra Institute Napa Valley, Brevard Music Institute, and Ohio Light Opera. In addition, she has performed with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, and the Symphony of Southeast Texas. Notable achievements include the Presser Scholar Award and SFCM Departmental Award for Woodwinds.
Amulet is also an adjunct faculty member at Jackson State University and Mississippi College.
